Our Newest Additions…A Sauna & Cold Plunge!

While flotation therapy relies on matching the air and solution of the tank to body temperature, there are also benefits to both heat and cold when applied in a safe way to the body. We at Float Oasis want to offer a wider variety of modalities for wellness, so we are now offering an Infrared Sauna and a Cold Plunge!

What does an Infrared Sauna do?

Infrared saunas are a bit different than traditional saunas. Instead of heating up the air in the sauna to warm you (usually with a space heater or steam), it instead uses infrared lamps that radiate onto the skin to warm the body. The sauna itself does not get very warm, and the humidity stays low, yet your body is warmed and you still sweat and receive the same benefits that you would from a traditional sauna.

Note: Infrared saunas operate at a lower temperature (usually between 120˚F and 140˚F) than traditional saunas, which are typically between 150˚F and 180˚F. With an infrared sauna, more of the heat goes directly onto your skin, so the sauna itself does not need to be heated as high for you to receive the same benefits!

What are the benefits of using an infrared sauna?

Benefits from using an infrared sauna include:

  • Detoxification (through sweating)

  • Reduction of stress/fatigue

  • Reduction of muscle aches, stiffness, and joint pain

  • Weight loss and increased metabolism (through increased heart rate, when used regularly)

  • Improved skin and lower appearance of cellulite

  • Improved heart health (by managing blood pressure and lowering cholesterol levels)

  • Reduction of chronic pain

  • Immune system boost (from the pseudo-fever induced by increased body temperature)

  • Diabetes support

How does a cold plunge work?

Cold plunges are similar to hot tubs, only they do have the opposite effect - instead of submerging you neck-down into very warm water, you instead submerge into cold water. Our cold plunge at Float Oasis is large enough to fit 6 people, so there is plenty of room for you to spread out (similar to our spacious float tanks!).

What are the benefits of using a cold plunge?

There are many benefits to submerging your body in cold water for a period, including:

  • Increased energy (do a session right after you get up in the morning!)

  • Speeding up muscle recovery (cold water therapy has been used in sports medicine for years)

  • Increased mood (cold water therapy increases the production of dopamine)

  • Pain relief (cold water therapy increases norepiniphrine, which lowers inflamation)

  • Boosts immune system (cold water therapy stimulates leukocytes, the white blood cells that help fight off sicknesses)
